Trainspotter's Code of Conduct (UK)

Keep yourself safe, protect the hobby, and respect railway staff.

Non‑negotiables
  • Stay behind yellow lines and follow station signage at all times.
  • Never trespass: no tracks, no lineside, no depots/yards unless explicitly permitted.
  • No flash photography (it can distract drivers and staff).
  • Respect staff instructions. If asked to move on/stop, comply politely.
Be a good neighbour
  • Keep bags/tripods clear of walking routes and platform edges.
  • Be mindful of other passengers (don't block doors, ramps, or staff work areas).
  • If you're spotting from public paths/bridges, keep noise and litter to zero.
If something feels wrong

Prioritise safety. Step back, get to a safe public area, and speak to station staff. In an emergency, call the UK emergency services.
